Beach access getting pricey for tourists
#11
I am also against state or county from creating new fees at parks that rely upon hiring more state or county employees, simply to collect the fees.

Unfortunately, neither state nor county cares what we think. Best we can hope for is a crack at the fee collector job. Good pay, nice benefits package, easy work.

a $10 per passenger fee on every incoming mainland or foreign flight

That's probably a Federal thing we can't do.

Rental cars all have GPS transponders in them. Simply add a surcharge for each place people visit. Post a price list inside the car next to the "$250 cleaning fee for smoking" sticker.

Which means Big Island residents who would be exempted from paying for the proposed fee, would then pay for visiting Hanauma Bay on Oahu.  Whether they go there or not.

Cost would be spread between all islands/counties.

Charging fees for visitors is a great idea. One that exists several places on the mainland. Residents get special stickers enabling free parking and visitors feed the meter.

What I really would like to see are parking spaces (or heaven forbid entire parking lots) colored a special color (discuss amongst yourselves) denoting Resident Only Parking. This way access can be guaranteed to at least some of us.

Any color is fine, because in real life, this won't be enforced.

Sad but true. Enforcement is a four letter word around these parts.
