It's not quite a monopoly, I think Kauai has their own separate electric company, but otherwise most of the electricity in Hawaii is produced by Hawaiian Electric.

It is on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol "HE" and the shares are around $27 today. They pay out dividends several times a year. Ask your broker or put money into an Ameritrade account or some other online brokerage and buy them yourself. Check all the numbers for yourself, first, though, since I'm not an experienced financial person and my advice is worth about what you pay for it regarding financial matters. (i.e. "free" or "nothing" depending on how you look at it.)

Hawaiian Electric pays the dividends back to my online brokerage. When enough cash is sitting there, then I reinvest it in something 'ner other depending on what looks good at the time.
