Helping a new family
#21
Pam, you know -- that just how "aloha" works. You've shown great aloha here in sharing all your knowledge (and funny stories) and in hosting Punaweb parties. Now its all coming back, not to you in particular, but to a young family you care about. I've said it before and I'll say it again (because none of you other than Rob can stop me): You get what you give.

Pam...we arrive on the 24th, but our stuff won't get there until probably after mid-October. We will definitely have some furniture for your family...will they still need stuff then?

Carol Ann and all... since I first read the plea on Craigs List for some help, I have been doing little stuff to help this unprepared family get their start. Apparently they came here with dollars in their pockets and a dream, but lots of misinformation. It cost them dearly. Being able to reach out and give a hand up (as opposed to a hand out) has been my pleasure. Having so many of you hop in has warmed my heart. I love the spirit of aloha that Punaweb has managed to generate. Thanks Rob for giving us this site and the chance to know one another.

The family has moved into a duplex up off of IHope Road. It's large and has plenty of play space for the kids. We havve managed beds, and a small kitchen type table. The rest will come with time. I am sure they will appreciate any and all donations. I gave them my double bed in hopes that whomever offered a double bed back a while ago will maybe let me swipe it for our cabin. Kids needed a place to sleep NOW.

Many have come forward and offered bits and pieces, both large and small. All is greatly appreciated. Maybe I can get them to come to the next Punatic Party??? We'll see. I don't want to embarass them but I can assure you all that there have been moments of tears (of joy) at the relief of things beginning to come together.

Dad has a job, older boys are in school, middle boy is being tested for special needs, baby was born a month ago, everyone has clothes, there is food in the kitchen, (after much much hassle with the DHS) food stamps were received today. Their van was repaired and arrived from the mainland. It's just another beautiful day in PARADISE!!

Aloha, Pam

We will have two double beds plus a loveseat in great condition and maybe some other stuff. Right now the beds will come in handy for us since our stuff will take some time to get to the island. I will let you know again in the future, otherwise there's always freecycle and craigslist...just would rather see your family get them. By the way - what are their names and ages (the kids, of course)? And it would be nice to at least know the parents' first names. Mahalo
