HPP -BUS ROUTE BEGINS 4/1 with 3 routes!

Road wear:

Twice the axle weight = sixteen times the road wear (2^4). Thus, a typical 6K-pound SUV does 81 times the damage (3^4) of a 2K-pound Honda Civic; the Civics are only apples-to-apples if they are stacked so that the entire weight falls on one set of axles.

If the roads really are "private", the HOA should be selling non-resident registration stickers (based on vehicle weight), so that these "foreign" vehicles can help fund the required maintenance. If "private" roads aren't entitled to "public" funding (fuel tax, etc) is it "fair" for the rest of us to get a free ride?

Bus service in HPP not only benefits the riders, it also benefits the drivers of cars in the park. The less people walking down the wrong side of a road with no sholders the safer it is for drivers.
Accidents can take lives and they can also change lives forever. I cannot imagine living with the death of a child in my minds eye for the rest of my life. Somehow the image of road wear is not as haunting, if that's the choice I have to make.
I count this as some of my tax money finally getting back here in the form of services.

Kudos to all those who made this finally happen!

If the main roads in HPP were dirt roads then I would be more concerned about axle weight, but they aren't. It'd be interesting to know what the maintenance costs are in HPP between the paved roads and the dirt roads, but if the bus saves a few cars driving in and around the sub-division that part of the equation might be irrelevant.

I don't see the several school buses tear up the paved roads every day they drive up and down them and they're quite heavy, but do see the dirt roads get torn up by smaller vehicles being driven too fast.

THE HPP BUS WILL BEGIN APRIL 1st!

My guess of the smaller bus was not correct, as they are using the larger bus, going Makuu - 16th - Paradise to Hilo & 1Paradise - 16th - Makuu on the way to Pahoa; stopping at the Hui with park & ride - flagging down stops only if safe..
HPP going to Hilo at 6:25am. 12:05 & 4:35
HPP to Pahoa at 10:45, 2:35 & 4:50

The Heleonbus.org site still has the current schedule, but I am sure that the new schedule will impact some of the Pahoa stops, esp. since the 12:05 into Hilo is the same time it is supposed to pickup in Pahoa... most likely that route will be starting earlier

Yeah just bumping again since 4/1 is rapidly approaching.

I find it kinda strange that a lot of the riders that are on spring break right now will have a rude awakening if they are not out 15-20 min's early. Pass the word on to your friends or anyone that takes the bus...

ADDED:
Biggest changes is for the FIRST bus of the morning, STARTING 20 MINUTES EARLIER (caps because that is way early for Nanawale 5:30M, Pahoa 5:35am, HB 5:50am....) the other 2 weekday routes are running later into Hilo & the 3 coming back will be 20mins later from HPP on....
