A slab from one of those trees would make an awesome dining room table...
Using the wood is certainly something to consider.
Would be good to know what woodworkers, sawmillers, et al think of this idea.
Also, is the idea of cut one tree, plant (at least) one tree.
The Mayor was saying, above the din and chaos, that replanting with native species was part of the plan.

I don't think the tree people did themselves any favors with their behavior at Thursday night's meeting. With a hurricane approaching and lava flowing, the vast majority of the crowd was there to hear important disaster-related information. Kudos to Mayor Billy for keeping his cool and being respectful when the tree people hijacked his presentation, refused to let him speak until they had been heard, and began chanting and waving signs after he noted that the relevant public officials and he would meet with them privately after the main presentation. One woman kept saying "If you kill the trees, you'll be killing my grandparents." As my daughters would say, "WTF?"
The audience was clearly upset at the disruption, which is what finally allowed the Mayor to continue.

Monkeypod is very good wood. Personally I like it even more than koa, which tends to be not very interesting unless it's really high quality. They also grow quickly - even most of the ones with thick trunks and huge spreading crowns are probably less than 50 years old.
