illegal trailers

I've never seen a legal trailer so the fines can't be that bad.

It's probably more than the yearly tax amount.
The DMV should come up with an alternative to taxing trailers for a full year. More people would comply and it would make the situation safer. I've seen some junk trailers on the Hwy.
Pretty dangerous.

The only problem with that, is you can't update your registration with out the current safety. But so many people drive around with old stickers... Hell, I tried it myself, got a new plate sticker (registration) and didn't even bother to put it on. Plenty cops behind me, no stop yet and it's almost time to get a brand new sticker. I'm trying to see how long it might take to get noticed.

I HIGHLY doubt if you drive around with your trailer a handful of times, you'll NEVER get stopped. Now if you used it daily... Well, yeah, go get it tagged.

But you know, that old saying? To more you drive the grater the chances you will be in an accident? Well, you can't win if you don't play. Same applies to trailer, and I doubt the cop would even fine you. Probably not even worth it! Unless you were doing something else stupid and he could get a twofer?

Last time I got the safety inspection I went via the transfer station so not to waste the trip.
Now I'm curious what the registration fee is. Know it is cheaper than my vehicles, but don't recall it being prohibitive.

If I remember correctly. I paid 105.00 for 1 year plus 15.00 for the safety. And that was for a pretty light 2 wheel trailer.

If the State would reduce the fees on trailers by basing the fee on weight of the trailer loaded, instead of a high commercial use weight fee, they might get a bargain in that people might clean up their blight of washers and old cars, scattered with miscellaneous crap their dog dug up on their 'Aina and show a little more respect. Maybe Tutu Pelé won't have to come by and scold you for not keeping your "room" clean.
