Change the name of red road to "Uncle Robert" and the speed limit would probably go down to15. I sort of agree with section going south from four corners, but there are a couple roads that come onto red road from the east, like Kapaho Beach Lots

The stretch from 4 corners to about Ahalanui was repaved and re-striped.

Gotta admit I've had the tw pegged on red road a few times,that's maybe 70 mph. Smart riding? No. Scary fun? Yep. Makes me feel like I'm ridding the isle of Mann Tt alongside Joey Dunlop. Stooopid fast. No matter the conditions. Yes it's beautiful to look at the scenery. That can be more dangerous than ride it like you stole it. I've Ridden some famous roads and trails on the mainland on a lot nicer bikes than 22 year old tw. I have to wonder if there is a better place to enduro ride than Puna. I'm starting to not fret the rain and there is something very punaesque about the thrashed tw. A little tired looking, a little old but it gets there, guess it's a Puna cruiser. If you see it rounding a bend sliding sideways at you on the red road, I apologize in advance. Next time you take the family on a high speed red road tour can I come along Gypsy?

Fishenjim you are always welcome. Will be cruising the former red road all weekend, the boys want to go fishing. The tide is low around 3 or 4 in the afternoon and the fish should be biting. We may have to test the old mini-van's 0 to 60 time, if she can still reach such speeds?. Some say if you don't use it you lose it, that may go for freedom as well?.

Okay, so those of us that know the Red Road know that you CAN go fast, especially in certain sections. And yes, years ago that was easy to do. But now that road is listed in guidebooks as a beautiful scenic drive and there are more houses and property being developed there all the time.

So then the question becomes not if you CAN drive fast, but if you SHOULD? Main Street Pahoa has a great easy stretch right by the elementary school where I CAN probably get up to 60mph, but SHOULD I? Maybe instead of just thinking of my own selfish wishes for speed I start to think about other people, and kids that might be in the road, etc.

I will admit that there have been times when I want to drive fast on the Red Road, Pohoiki Rd, Kamaili or other small roads around here... and then get frustrated that some slow tourist or other stoned slowpoke is in front of me. When that happens I try to stay calm, take a deep breath, and ask myself "What is it that they are seeing, that I am missing because of my desire to get to my destination so quickly?" I will admit that it does't always work and change my opinion, but sometimes it's good to check yourself.

Plus, I worked for a few years as an EMT and ambulance driver. That pretty much killed my impulse for speed driving just for fun. Too many very preventable accidents happen because people think they can go just a little bit faster than everyone else or fail to pay attention at a critical moment. You and I might not be bad drivers, but who can say about the ice-head coming head-on at you around the next blind corner?

Leilani has a 35 mph limit which at times seems to high or not enforced enough. Leilani also has more rules or regulations than most other subdivisions, so in your case Obie don't forget your leash when roaming. You may run a few of leilani's 50 plus pedestrian stop signs or into a covered bus stop full of keiki, so go easy and stay under 100mph please. Those stretches I am revering to down on that very large repaved blacktop are fairly open and free of home owner living quarters. Your sweet short remarks are usually trollish, while also lacking any respect or Patience for others views or opinions. Happy holidays to you anyhow, hope we can find something more we may have in common besides being a pair of a-- h----.
P.S. I really do drive with respect, aloha, also know that driving is a privilege and not a right. My opinion of red road's speed limit in certain areas being to low is just that, an opinion.
