How does it feel to live in a one Party State guys?

If we had two parties, this politically correct bullsh*t would just be alternated with environmental destruction every couple years. Pretty sure the wasteful spending and cronyism would stay the same, though the names may change.

Hawaii is not a part of a national representative republic.
Except in form and, of course, finances. That's what concerns the politicians and bureaucrats here.

It remains a vestige of plantation days at every level.
Sen Kahele's loyalties are to OHA and a non-existent "kingdom".
Some have said "Kai wanted to establish a record for himself, quickly".
You all can take that any way you want. The arrogance and emptiness is appalling
in Hawaii government at all levels.

The GOP candidates in Hawaii are mostly terrible and they've been their own worst enemy even against poor DEM canidates. But I'm sure there types of problems won't be solved by having another team fighting over the scraps.

Just look at how they deal publicly with conflicts of interest as shown by John Oliver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Atxr8faVDkc

Kai seems to also be pursuing something very aggressively of his "own interest" here too.

My Dad used to say "the people usually get the political system that they deserve" - which I understood to mean that, if you don't vote, or don't support candidates that are interested in maintaining the long term success of the community, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

I'd also note that, if we had a local press that was actually fulfilling their function, instead playing lapdogs of the prevailing party, then a lot of this crap wouldn't be possible.

Agreed.
Many of my relatives (older generation) came to the US to avoid repression in the 1920's and 30's.
They all participated in political activity and discourse- because they knew the alternative
vividly and personally.
Politics in this State and country is at times, a waking nightmare to me.
Particularly corrupt politicians and clueless unconcerned citizens.
We have to do better.
At all levels, County, State and nationally.

Your Dad stole that line from long ago - afaik it was "The American people get the gov't that they deserve".. various attributions from quoteland.com
\... over the years i've seen numerous attributions, including: - alexis de tocqueville - mark twain (samuel clemens) - machiavelli - adlai stevenson - burke as well as a variant that adds "...and deserve the government they get." (hunter s thompson)
I like Hunter's codicil!

My Dad was from long ago... but certainly can't argue that the idea was original to him. And can't disagree with Hunter S., but have to cite one of my favorites, HL Mencken: "Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."

He had another one that I only just came across: "On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron."

I think that day has arrived....

Mencken is one of my favorites.
The day Prohibition ended in 1933, Mencken walked into his local bar (it supposedly never had closed), and asked for a
glass of water. "This is the first drink of water I've had since 1920 (the start of Prohibition)".
