Last I heard she was spotted on a moving to Costa Rica forum--I guess that's her new target "paradise".

Have you had a chance to read the thread on Autism? In my extended family there is a family unit with 4 children all under 10 years of age. 3 sons and one daughter. Two of the boys are twins and all three boys are autistic. Their disease was diagnosed around the age of 3.

I for one applaud Laura K, she has her dreams and to her credit she reaches for them, diligently planning and researching with great care and focus! She is courageous as her dreams don't always come to fruition, but she pushes on. At one time, I out of personal ignorance had opinions not worth repeating regarding Laura K. As I learned she has an autistic son 6 - 8 years old, and she also suffers from Aspergers, I did some research and came to understand her dilemma, all in credit to her openness.

That her new dreams take her to Costa Rica is wonderful. They speak English predominantly there, their society is 96% educated, and the flora and fauna are exquisite. As my older, spayed and neutered cats are not accepted into Hawaii at this time, I too have considered Costa Rica and plan to travel there.

From what I've heard, she didn't enjoy going thru peoples personal things, nor enjoy the personal contact, and the authoritative posturing necessary for such a vital security function.

It is unfortunate she found the job unsuitable for her personality, but she did study, research, test, and qualify for this position! Good for her! Best wishes on her dream of Costa Rica!

Make sure you research it well. One of my friends bought three acres in a gated subdivision, built a house and retired there. She ended up moving back after two years. She said she was always referred to as the "rich blonde" even though she has never been rich, she retired as a teacher. She also said even though most people speak English there, it's a limited English and you need to speak Spanish to get by. (She speaks Spanish.)

ok while we are off topic ...

cant leave your place in costa rica un attended either ... the local version of squatters rights makes it almost impossible to get your house back if "locals' move in after you leave ...
pacific side is ok as far as safety, atlantic side ...can be dicey wear a money belt, keep your passport in a safe at the hotel and carry photocopies...
my favorite - the howler monkeys that hide in the trees and toss feces at unsuspecting gringos

I loved the place

Hope, thanks for the suggestion! LOL I've heard them all and even some tricks from state officials, how in the old days (1990's!)the 120 day quarentine was skirted, using cargo ships! I'm just a tax paying, law abiding smuck, and couldn't pull it off if my life depended on it.

Bullwinkle and John, thanks for the heads up. Can't leave your property, haha, sounds like Puna. Hey what ever came of the video of the white truck driver testing out someones gate???? Intereseting that.

Macuu222, sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. Say hey! I'd go for the job, and even if it didn't suit you in the long run, you'd be positioned to hear first hand about other jobs coming available. I spoke to a woman who worked part time at the Hilo airport as security for 20 years. She loved it even moved from Kona side to the Puna (the Puna, a living breathing entity) to go from full time to part time. Depending on her assignment at any given time, part of her job was to just walk around and talk story with people just to get a feeling for their vibes. Must have been FBI trained huh! LOL Anyway I enjoyed our chat and thought that her job would be interesting, and fun.
