The protesters requested no one visit the protest site while the virus is about. So they do believe in science, when it benefits them personally.

Additionally they have their own medical center, presumably without test kits:
The camp remains under the watch and care of the Mauna Medic and Healers Hui under the direction of Dr. Kalama N#299;heu.

The Star-Advertiser has a web page listing events that are being canceled in the state. It's updated regularly.

The Star Advertiser is saying several of farmers markets are closing on Oahu. Are there any backup plans for getting produce to people if this island's farmers markets close?

Good on them - some get it.

In some ways this is a good wake up call for living hand to mouth. We should always have some vege plants, fruit and nut trees in the yard even if it's a rental, no excuse to landlords for not planting. I've got hundreds including at rentals and it's just a hobby. Moringa grows quite well in Hawaii, hard to get rid of, Chaya is like a weed too, coconuts are great and a fishing pole or two can come in real handy.

Yeah, we were growing purple sweet potatoes just to try it out, now we'll be harvesting and replanting like "The Martian"!

Good point on the Farmer's Market customers though; maybe the time is ripe for a subscription service where produce can be dropped off at people's gates for a fee.

Delivery makes sense just has some issues involved given our large area and rural "roads."

Maybe easier to do grab-and-go sets at a fixed location (preferably prepaid online/phone). Just drive up, use license plate to identify the order, roll down back window, toss items in car, next... Distributors would ideally need PPE though like the drive-up testing centers.

I was surprised the Big Island International Marathon went ahead this last weekend in Hilo.

Hilo Farmers Market remains open, while Makuu Farmers Market, a popular Sunday-only market near Pahoa, is closing until further notice.

Hours & services (take out, etc) for a number of Hilo restaurants are included in the article too.
