My mom felt it in Honomu and called us right away, but we did not feel it here.

Hawaiian Beaches makai:

Was sitting at the computer, when it felt like my chair moved to the side. I checked with my brother (sitting on the couch) and sister-in-aw (standing in the kitchen) and neither of them felt anything. They decided I was "feeling things" (like "seeing things"). Then the Civil Defense announcement broke into the TV programming.

Just glad I haven't gone over the edge.

Isn't this an unusual location for an earthquake?

Yes, less common than a lot of places, but not unheard of. From my very amateur knowledge of such things, I would venture that they can and will happen almost anywhere on or around the Big Island . . . and probably Hawaii as a whole.

Apparently not Glen, as we had another 2.3 this afternoon same area, making 4 in less than 22 hours.

I see. Then perhaps Mauna Kea is not as sleepy as we thought.
