First snow of the winter?
#21
Yep, there was snow this afternoon but not a lot, as Carey said the UKIRT webcam showed it but it wasn't much. The JCMT operator has just closed their dome as snow is falling - that report was at 9:45pm HST. I guess this counts, however, as the first snowfall of the season...

Peak just cleared of clouds & there is a lovely blanket of white on the crest of Mauna Kea!

OK. I'm no weather specialist but I was looking at the camera at the observatory and the weather print out said the humidity was 102.20% I thought at 100% you have rain. How do you get the other 2.20%???

Royall - I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know which observatory you mean but the readings can be out by a few percent either way and just means they're not calibrated perfectly. It also might mean that the humidity is being calculated in software and no-one thought to put a limit of 100% in there somewhere. If you see a reading above 100% it probably means fog and the calibration is a little off.
