Septic and cesspool engineering
#21
Or just call Zelda and Paul, the OPs of this thread, at Atlas Engineering. They'd be the most direct route to the septic or cesspool info. Best of luck, Julie!

Julie just know that a lot of people have paid a 1/2 deposit and never seen the guy again. Do NOT pay in advance. Tell him you will make deposit at the end of his first day of work and pay the balance when he is totallly finished AND moed the dozer off your property. I had a guy who left his dozer here for months. We went to war. I had someone with a universal key move it tot he back of my 30 acre property. Amazing he knew within days and went povstal on me. I told him he left it in the way and he could come get it!

Aloha and mahalo plenty for all the ono comments! Please do not hesitate to call us at 965-7350, Monday--Friday, 8:00 a.m.--5:00 p.m., if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to be of service to our community and aina. BTW, cesspools are still allowed in many areas of the Big Island, and we always send our customers tips on how to maintain a healthy wastewater system. Even if you are not our customer, please feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to send you a copy of DOH's tips. We are very lucky to have an exceptionally professional and helpful Department of Health in Hawaii, and we are dedicated to keeping our groundwater and CWDA (critical wastewater disposal areas) clean and healthy. Also, some contractors use precast lids for cesspools--in our opinion, this is a very efficient, good way to insure that your cesspool is properly capped, and it also helps to speed up the Approval for Use process. Mahalo and aloha!

Hi y'all! I had the lot bulldozed with no problems. I did not have the cesspool dug at the same time. Too complicated. One thing at a time. I paid 3,000 to James Kim (in phonebook) and I think he did a good job. HE was there with a D9 for a day and a half.

Aloha! Lots of good questions out there. We strongly urge owners to obtain a written contract with your licensed wastewater contractor before they begin work or you make any payment to them. It makes us very sad when we hear about folks who made a 50 percent down payment to someone they thought was reputable and legal, only to discover that they have been cheated and have very little recourse. The Health Department will only accept wastewater systems from contractors with the following licenses: A (general engineering), C-43 (septic), C-9 (cesspool), or C-37/C-37a (plumber). If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call us at Atlas Engineering, LLC, at 965-7350. You can also visit the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs website at www.hawaii.gov/dcca to check to see if a license is current, valid, and in good standing and is one of the four acceptable wastewater licenses for contractors. Mahalo and malama pono!
