In defense of Orchidland (I think you mean the true value general store) their prices are quite reasonable. Not all of them of course, but some of their items are just as cheap or cheaper than anywhere else. Last week I kicked myself because I saw a product there that cost less than what I paid on Amazon for it. You can also get a fresh made to order sandwich there for less than what you pay at Subway. Some other things I've bought there, hose clamps, velcro, and some other off the wall items, they might have cost a few cents more than HD but I didn't have to spend $10 in gas plus an hour to go get it. And the $5 mixed bento at minute mart isn't a bad deal either.

Could still happen -- according to the plats, there's two large (5-7ac) parcels at the end of the street, both of which have frontage on the next road.
I've been hoping for a Lowe's, even though their business model is "within 2 miles of a Home Depot" -- as this is nearly impossible for Hilo, maybe Lowe's will make an exception.
