No to your question Aki. There'll be no votes tomorrow. A presentation of the proposed amendments thus far and there'll be handouts so members can review them at home. Also Q&A on the proposals.

Mahalo Mermaid for your detailed post.
It is refreshing to read a post filled with information And of course, glad to read a wrong (terminating the RTSC IN EXECUTIVE SESSION ) was rescinded.

I am sure we are all glad that the Feb. 18th board meeting is behind us. It was 4 hours long and the Secretary ended up running the show as the president still has extreme difficulties with running a meeting correctly and has not learned any of the by-laws after 8 months. The evidence of internal arguing and bickering is a total embarrassment. Still, some owners got to talk and talk and talk while others were cut off. Same story just a different meeting. When the board was asked specifics on the monetary expenditures, and what process they went through and how many bids they got, there was no real answers. An open board would want us to know. The treasurer should be able to speak about it right off the top of her head. At least the membership meeting was much more tolerable.

quote: I do not understand why it is so hard for the board to manage this one simple aspect of the membership meetings. You just set a simple kitchen timer for each person and let them go until it goes off. Giving people different amounts of time always smacks of favoritism, even if it is just the product of incompetence instead of being an effort to censor some points of view. Their are certain people in the audience who seem to function as the "muscle" yelling "Time's up!" at the people whose opinions they want to stifle, while supporting the people they agree with. One guy in particular is really obnoxious about it.

At the last 2 meetings on Wed. And Sat. Nobody yelled from the audience that time is up.
What you are referring to is past history Karma

quote: It is stated above that not everyone got the same amount of time, that is, at the very least, an appearance of favoritism. Perhaps the yeller is now on the board.

I don't know which meetings you all are specifically discussing but there were only a few people who made comments or asked questions during owner input at the board mtg and they weren't cut off. There were no issues. In fact, many owners were allowed to ask questions or make comments freely during the meeting if it pertained to the topic. I don't recall anyone yelling at anyone during owner input at the Gen'l Membership mtg about the time. I don't recall any issues. Many I recall spoke longer than 3 min and it was allowed.
Were either of you at the board or general membership mtg? I think one of you weren't at either meeting. The membership mtg turned into a mess w/yelling back and forth, out of turn at times, about NW stuff for way too long. It turned into more of a NW agenda as it ate up most of the time and the other 2 committees who had presentations had very little time left by 5:30. The outcome was that the NW will receive the proceeds from the swap meet again. The bylaws committee had less than a half hour to do their presentation and was bumped to last place on the agenda bc a member requested it at the start of the membership mtg. The NW supplied the home baked goodies - Mahalo. They were delicious. Iligan's rep admitted he was nervous about going up to the mike after all that had transpired. It was evident before he even spoke. Janet commented that it would be a good idea to have the bylaw proposals handout provided on the website. There was discussion of this at a BLC mtg so be on the lookout for it. Another lot owner personally suggested supplying handouts at the ofc as well which is a good idea. I for one don't care if another board member speaks freely in moving a meeting along if it's a better solution to what's going on at the time. No one complained about it at either meeting. The Secretary has a calm demeanor, is sharp and attentive, and that's a good thing in my book. She clearly was not "running" either meeting. The Pres did have input on numerous occasions. There was an interim GM handout at the membership mtg meant to clear up the $85-90,000 expenditure on equipment. "Jo Maynard motioned to buy the $90,000 Case (boom arm mower) BJ Mullenix seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimous. In January 2015 a John Deer boom arm mower was purchased for $48,000 and a commercial mower was purchased for $30,000". Total $78,000 instead of $85-90,000. It would've been helpful if the VP/interim GM had shared this specific information at a board mtg at an earlier date. Also included in the handout, "In January 2015 the Dodge Ram aka blue truck was sold and a Toyota Tacoma 2 WD crew cab was purchased for $10,000 plus $657.00 tax and license." The motion on 2 Oct 2014 was that the price tag wouldn't exceed $15,000. Also in the handout was I believe inaccurate info. "In August 2014 Francis Ganon made a request to purchase a John Deer boom are mover for $114,000 at that time the board agreed it was too expensive". (typos included) From my recollection, the August meeting was a post storm meeting that got shut down shortly after it started. There are no minutes. So something screwy's going on here with this info. The handout stated that the loader was sold in December 2014. The Oct 26th General Membership mtg minutes states under the interim GM report, that the loader was sold. The Nominating Committee hasn't met yet. Roseanne said she's chairperson. It's a membership committee so the members decide amongst themselves who's chair so that needs to be sorted out. After this membership mtg, I hope that the ball will get rolling. Time's running out. Thanks to Bruce for putting up the banners that notates which districts are in the running this June. |
