It is true that they have to give you a free PO box if they do not offer any delivery options. Unfortunately, they do not always have any PO boxes available. When that happens they will set you up with "general delivery". Sort of the same thing but instead of having a box to check you get the privilege of standing in line and watch everybody in front of you talk story. We were on the waiting list for a PO Box at Keaau for a very short time- a few weeks. When one came open it was a large one and since it was assigned to us we have had the large PO Box for 3 years now. You do have to go in once per year(they give you a notice) and "reclaim" the free box for another year. The notice lists all this paperwork you're supposed to bring but they have never asked for it.

In Mt.View post office the do ask for your paper work ever time to prove that you get a free box. It took about 10 months to get a box about 4 years ago that was fast I ask ever week about there being a open box. I got it faster than a lot of people who waited for the post office to give them one by just waiting.

Saturday PO hours in Kurtistown are 10a-noon for package pick-up only. The counter is not open Saturdays, but you can pick up packages.

The 3 post offices are Mt.View, Kurtistown, and Keaau in this area. Lower Haw'n. Acres would probably use Kurtistown. I don't know the wait for a p.o. box there, but at Keaau, it's up to 5 years. LOCAL LOCAL MAIL & SHIP, conveniently located in Keaau across from Keaau Public Library, has private mail boxes for rent TODAY! We are trying to alleviate the situation the U.S.Postal Service has by offering private mail boxes. We also issue the renter a PHYSICAL address, so receiving parcels is even easier. Please phone 339-7813 for more info.

Hoping someone in the lower Hawaiian Acres area might be able to answer a few questions.
1) I'm assuming the closest post office is Mt. View. If there are no PO boxes available, what are other options?
2) Internet options - I've heard most use Exede, Dish or DirectTV? Any thoughts?
Thanks so much!
