Just as Trump uses twitter to bypass the criticism and of the media, government agencies have taken to twitter to bypass Trump's gag order. Here is the list of Alt accounts. They include several organizations that do a lot of work here in Hawaii.

A member of the House of Representatives has introduced a bill to allow drilling for oil and fracking in our National Parks. Yes, our archaic system of land ownership allows for mineral extraction under 40 parks currently in NPS management. As far as I know, Volcanoes National Park does not allow for this type of... desecration and exploitation of the unique natural beauty our parks were meant to protect.

But, as Natasha said earlier in this thread, it's a slippery slope, and likely these bill submissions are test cases to see in what other ways preservation and conservation controls in the park system can be eroded.

Volcanoes National Park also houses the Volcano Art Center. To me this is an integral part of my experience when I visit. I don't know how the building rental is related to the funding of the park, but in any system where resources are doled out to the highest bidder, the weakening of use restrictions may lead to the real possibility where our artists are outbid for their management of the building. This may happen sooner rather than later, as The National Endowment for the Arts is also on the chopping block. Does their funding or other federal funding affect the artists of Volcano and their ability to present works to the public? If you work with the Art Center please let us know if it does.
