Target used to have a bin for them at the edge of Starbucks. It took household batteries and empty inkjet cartridges.

Energizer is the only company that has a "no leak guarantee" that extends coverage to the products the batteries could potentially destroy:

https://www.energizer.com/about-batterie...ry-leakage

I recently had an NiMH battery leak. I didn't even know that was a thing. Fortunately the battery quit working as soon as it started leaking so no damage to the remote. But now something new to look out for. It was a cheap Chinese crap brand. From now on I'm sticking to Eneloops. I've spent more money on replacing products damaged by batteries than could ever be saved by skimping on batteries.

ETA: Energizer guarantee is for specific product lines. Check guarantee. I am not an Energizer representative, in fact, I'm not even sure I own any of their batteries.
