Only partially tongue in cheek. I won't go into details (there are scotch forums for such) but some of the Kirkland scotches are amazing values when you look at the actual product.
I've been looking for the 20 year old. Supposedly the best of the year ranges and a great deal. Sounds like you enjoy whiskey/whisky. Do you prefer bourbon, scotch, rye or...?

Well we went last night. Things are definitely overpriced.
My wife and I split a Monday special Surf and Turf. The filet was excellent but the Norway Lobsters were a bit of a problem because they didn't provide any way to get the meat out of the shell. The stuffed baked potato was just kind of sprinkled with toppings.
Tried the $22.00 Loch Lomand scotch. It was good but for $22.00 I expect a tiny bit more than a jigger.
Service was great and everyone in our party said they would go back.

I guess I prefer scotch. I'm not a connoisseur.

One vote for Irish Whiskey. Latest fav is Redbreast. Lived in the south for a bit, became a bourbon guy, but that faded after I moved away. Cannot stand Islay style Scotch, but upland stuff is pretty good.

Redbreast is excellent whiskey. For slightly cheaper options, I'm partial to Bushmills Black Bush and the slightly more expensive Red Bush. I don't drink much whiskey anymore, I found out years ago it started to affect me in ways it hadn't when I was younger, but I still like the odd shot now and then. As for whisky, Laphroig is still my favorite affordable one. Oban is another but that's harder to find. Obviously, it's all a personal choice in the end. I've never tried a shot of whisky that costs $340 and probably never will unless someone else is buying the round!

Honestly I prefer the cheap Kirkland Scotch, it's super smooth and just a little sweet; perfect for sipping or with a Coke [Zero]. Expensive Scotch tastes like peat moss and old cigars, but whatever you enjoy!
I can also recommend Costco's Prime Ribeye, it melts in your mouth like butter! Any steakhouse has a high bar to meet as far as I'm concerned.

TomK, have you looked at the selection of scotch that Kadota Liquors in Hilo has?

randomq, that "peat moss" you taste is associated with the formerly mentioned "Islay" or island style Scotch. Stuff made in the southern Scottish isles. To some, it's the cats meow. To me, it's horrid.
The Kirkland stuff, of all manners, is pretty good, especially for the price. I just had a Kirkland gin (mixed with POG), and it tasted as good as the brand name stuff for half the price.

rocketman - I used to occasionally pop into Kadota's years ago to pick up a decent bottle of Irish whiskey - sometimes it was cheaper than buying it back in the UK! Also, when I first moved here back in the mid-late 90s they were really the only place you could find British beers. But I'm not a big drinker of spirits these days and haven't been in there for a number of years now.
