New store open in Hilo
#21
"Ah yes, forcasting an economic downturn. You sound like my republican sister. "We're waiting for the housing market to collapse to buy a new home."

The comedy in this is the wikipedia on Aesop's fable "The Ant and the Grasshopper" (written thousands of years ago).

"Even in Classical times, however, the advice was mistrusted by some and an alternative story represented the ant's industry as mean and self-serving."

Waiting to buy a house could backfire when you consider rising interest rates. Also, there's no guarantee of a big bust comparable to several years ago.

As for the store, I don't plan to check it out.

I'm counting on high interest rates. As a cash buyer, I benefit from less competition. As far as Big Busts go, the stock market has had more losing weeks in a row since the 1920s.

I'm looking for a mainlander who either wants to sell their vacation home or whose vacation home enters foreclosure. I would like to set up another rental property.

There has always been a shortage of rental homes on the island.  I appreciate you trying to rectify that.  I wouldn't want to try after the GOV privatized public housing during the pandemic.

We have Daiso stores in our area and my other half loves going there. As with most things, there's good and bad. We bought 1/2 dozen simple ceramic bowls we use for the cats water and they have held up for years. Plenty of other useful things to be had, and tasty - pocky sticks and Hi-Chew, but I'd wait until the novelty/crowds subside.
