Recommend an Architect
#11
I am an architect who travels between Puna and the mainland, where I teach college classes in drafting, methods of construction, and cost estimating. When on island this summer I am in central HPP. I specialize in designing with alternative materials that work in a tropical environment. With professional licensing in both California and Hawaii, I am qualified to stamp plans for building permits. Here is my website: http://web.mac.com/johnmaloney3/JMA/Home.html if you want to find out more about what I do. One of our goals is to complete the first sustainable mini-community in Hawaii, and we are about 40% of the way there so far.

Have you found a septic engineer yet? Apparently Ron Nickels has retired so I'm not sure who folks are using now?

Hello John the Architect,
Do you have any imagery of houses you have designed for Hawaii?

Some can be seen on my website http://www.jmagreenbuilding.com. Some designs are still in my computer or in thick files of sketches. How to build sustainably, affordably, and with beauty is an ongoing challenge. The projects I do for my own family and future neighbors in HPP allow me a type of freedom, but that is tempered by the reality that it's all out of pocket so far. I get very good at material shopping and revising plans to use local products. You can see more details of my work in the website for our home that will be renting out this fall. http:// web.mac.com/johnmaloney3/greenrental/arcobaleno.html
