Finally coming back

----------------------------------------------
Olaa - out the Hamakua Coast? As much as I love Puna.... I would ditch it all in a heartbeat for Hamakua --- just cant get my SO to budge, he loves Puna...
----------------------------------------------

Hamakua looks awesome - just wish lots wern't 2-3 times as much as we wanna spend!

----------------------------------------------
Only thing to remember out there is if there is a accident on the Belt Road - you gotta stop, very few alternate accesses...unless you are a pig hunter with mega 4WD....
----------------------------------------------

A pickup with huge suspension and monster truck wheels would definitely be on the shopping list! I'm a big fan of off-road driving Big Grin

Oh, you so need to come here and let us tour around together. Those are some incredibly widely divergent places. HOIE (Hawaiian Orchid Island Estates) is up by Volcano and quite wet. Fern Acres is nice (I used to live there) but does get more rain than lower Puna and Hilo. Hawaiian Acres is all over the map, some great areas and some not so great.

We really need to spend some time looking around.

Oh and one other thing -- Olaa Reservation Lots is not a well defined area. Its on the mauka side of the highway and covers an area that extends from near Hawaiian Acres to near Fern Forest. That's more than a few miles.

NYCbert where ya' from? Me and the family moved here in April 06 from Mamaroneck NY.
We live in Hawaiian Beaches and love it.
We found a house that we could afford to pay cash for, there fore we're coasting. Well at least my wife is, yes I'm workin'40 but no stress. The ride home from Hilo is wonderfull.......

If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it cost when it’s free...now here come the taxes.....

Thanks for the info, everyone! Big Grin

We're just feeling things out at the moment. I get the impression there's a lot of climatic diversity in a small area in Puna. We've got a lot to see, it'll probably take another trip or 2 before we decide for sure about making the move. NYC to Puna might come as a bit of a culture shock...

As for market watching and deciding when to buy...well, for every guy telling us to wait, there's one telling us to buy now. The realtors I've been in touch with do seem awefully keen to show us around, which kind of says something! We're in no hurry, but having a spot on Hawaii that we can point to and say "MINE!" is motivating...

Scott - we're in Brooklyn, NY at the moment, slaves to the wonderful world of TV advertising. Wifey and me are both in the video/motion graphic business. It sucks, but it does pay well enough that we'll be able to plop down cash for a slice of Puna. We're not breaking the bank - as long as the business/financial plan goes well, we'll be BI residents by 2010 Big Grin
