I have to answer calls whether I know the # or not but we do have anonymous call blocking on our landline. If your # doesnt show up it doesnt ring through.
You can also, after you hang up and if you captured the # on your phone, use the following contact for the FBI fraud: https://tips.fbi.gov/ Fill out form and hit send.

The pros that do the phishing scams don't use their real phone number. The number you see on your caller ID is "spoofed". They can put any number they want into their equipment.
In fact, most of the scammers are probably using IP phones anyway and are not even in the country.

We don't have a FHB account, causing me to hangup.
This other day I got an email to my yahoo account about my credit union account. As to best of my knowledge that account has never been linked to that email, I promptly forwarded the email to my credit union. David Ninole Resident

Ask the caller to please hold while you go find your information and then just let them get bored till they hang up. Wasting their time might save someone a problem.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Rob - if the calls are like the ones I got it's a robocall - there isn't a human on the other end of the line so they're unlikely to get bored. This isn't the first time I've received one of these calls (the last was about a year ago) and wondered about just putting the phone down rather than hanging up and costing them long-distance charges. Trouble is, I suspect they've either hijacked someone's phone account, called via some free internet account or just paid a small amount of money for free long-distance calling. However they've done this I'm sure it's not costing them any time and wouldn't be surprised if the calls are coming from overseas.
I don't know how easy it is to spoof caller-ID but out of the two or three calls I've had caller-ID said it was from the mainland, but every time they're from a different state. First time this happened to me, as I said about a year ago, I called FHB and told them I'd received a scam phone call claiming to be from them. FHB couldn't have been less interested, or at least the person I eventually spoke to gave that impression. I was pretty surprised by their attitude. Tom

I figured they just call all kinds of numbers, from all different states, but obviously someone hacked into cornette's website and started using an actual personal account of one of their employees, so I wanted to be sure they hadn't also hacked into any bank info. I figure if anyone has been called that doesn't have an FHB account, then that would eliminate that concern.
Obviously they haven't hacked actual account info, or they wouldn't need to call, but was wondering if they have names of account holders. I also asked Cornette's to call me back and let me know who their server was, because I want to be sure we're not doing business with a company that allowed a leak like that.

YurtGirl - They've been calling both FHB account holders and people who've never had an account with the bank. I don't think they know who has a bank account at FHB or not, they're just targeting anyone in HI on the chance they'll get lucky. They probably only need to get one or two people to give their bank account info away to make it worthwhile. Well, perhaps not mine!
