Neither is oil or coal which also get government subsidies and cause other expensive problems that are real but not included in the out of pocket costs at time of purchase. The real shame in Hawaii is that we could easily power the state with geothermal. Not doing so makes about as much sense as Texas not making use of the oil reserves there.

Here is a DIY water heater system that is hooked up to a conventional water heater, that was used for 30 years. This would of course, need to be done after, receiving a final on your permit and know inspectors will not be visiting your home again.
It would be great, if we could organize a volunteer team, of builders and installer to set up a system to help people, lower their bill by installing a unit such as this. Of course, for their service, their would be a barter system to help them meet a need that they may need. Cleaning house, yard work, babysitting, cooking, laundry or whatever, so that it is a worth everyones time and effort.
What do you think?
