The local police are (selectively, so far) enforcing this NEW interpretation of Federal law. Beware.

The Feds have threatened local government officials(State,County, City, etc), personally, with prosecution if they facilitate in any way with the distribution of MMJ.

The only way that these entities can pass laws on this issue is in the negative, i.e. No Dispencery within 1000 ft. of a school, etc.

This will be in limbo until the Federal laws are changed.

They also have to be at least 1000 feet away from professional dog grooming facilities, sorcerers, witches, economists and pay by the minute astrological councilors.

I think the issue is that the laws approved by voters in the municipalities that have approved MMJ laws were predicated on a non profit model, dispensaries as we know them are a for profit model.

Currently the politicians need to appeal to the "law and order" right wingers for their swing votes - no better target than for profit dispensaries to elevate law and order credentials.

no profit or no election year drama - no issues from the feds imho

The current grow your own movement seems to be coming along just fine, me I'd open a growers supply biz - best of both worlds

Daniel, I believe the feds were just blowing "hot air", they do not have the man power to go to every state and lock up state employees trying to help process med cannabis patients in their states.

Another conservative here and I support legalization as long as it's taxed appropriately.

I like the idea of adults in a free society, doing whatever they want with plants, (as long as their activities don't pose a threat to public health and safety), free from government intrusion or involvement.

Wouldn't that type of approach be an example of what one would expect as a hallmark of a free society, as opposed to an authoritarian or totalitarian regime, where private behavior between consenting adults is criminalized, let alone criminalized for corporate profit?

Personally, I think it will be many years before Hawaii's politicians allow the herb in question to be supplied by shops, like tobacco or alcohol is.

Being more of a drinker, (moderate), I used to sit at the bar at Lucy's in Kailua, watching a conservative (statist) Senator and former legendary surfer, get high on booze regularly. He seemed like a pleasant fellow and certainly enjoyed his regular, drug use. I always found it interesting watching people in power, who support jailing harmless people over much safer cannabis, while getting stoned regularly on a deadly, addictive, socially destructive, neuro-toxic drug.

Beachboy's right about now being a good time to voice opinions and sound out the politicians about this issue.

I support legalization too and I wouldn't touch the stuff. A referendum on this would be interesting.

I'm gonna bet they generally don't have very progressive views on mental illness either, but that didn't stop the NRA from arguing forcefully (and successfully) that people with diagnosed psychosis should be allowed to buy guns.
