Banks in Hawaii
#21
Les, that's a good question that I didn't think to ask. I suppose their magnetic ink scanners would tell them from the ABA code on the check whick bank it was, if indeed it is the location of the bank and not the customer that matters.

Cheers,
Jerry

Most likely, it's the address of the account holder which is the main concern over in or out-of-state checks. The presumption is it's harder to collect from a person who isn't in the state versus a person down the road.

If a financial institution is licensed/chartered in Hawaii, the location of the individual branch should have no consideration on a transaction, (the branches don't actually have your money) it's all processed through the same clearinghouse as in-state checks. Of course if they are using a national on-site check verification/clearings service, the store has your money the second they ran that check through the reader.

If you have an out of state financial institution not chartered in HI, and an out of state address, they probably can outright refuse to accept it if that's the stores policy.
