@ carey, how long is the drive from the waimea side? It's like 4-5 hours from saddle rd.....

The Waimea side has more pavement...& Mana has many deep undercut rutted tracks to choose from for a few miles starting above Hakalau .... so it is a little less time from Waimea...(esp. since most of the time on that route you are looking up to the undercut ruts on the way in...& can hopefully remember the best route on the way out...) Have done both directions & I prefer the Waimea start...but only when I am also planning to do something in Waimea or beyond...

I've only been up mana rd....You definitely need 4wd on that side. Super duper bumpy and rough. I'd like to take the waimea route! Pavement? Wowzers!
