Using toilet tanks as planters

Anyone ever done this? Seems like they would have good drainage. Wonder if there is way to disguise them. Seems to be strong enough.

Lots of ideas online. Planting ferns with a decorative Gnome is a good look.
Or... If you seal the water outlet you can make it into a fountain by adding a pump.

Probably requires a county permit.

A toilet planter would be permit-exempt as long as it didn't include any actual "plumbing". That said, if the toilet planter were visible from the street, County would probably construe evidence of a bathroom remodel, for which you had better have your permits (and licensed contractor).

That said ... I've always thought toilet planters were trashy, until I saw one with a huge agave, it looked really cool. I have some "spare" toilets, but where do I find the agave?

Funny that you ask that, I just bought (and received 3 days later) an agave starter from this ebay merchant. I actually bought from them because I wanted a bay leaf tree and black pepper vine, but since after the first purchase "each additional" is only 99 cents added to shipping, I added this agave:

I bought a few of those agave at the Garden Exchange for $3 each. Problem is, they don't have them all the time.

Why would you want to disguise them? They are ceramic .
