There are places on island other than South Point and Upolu Point that have strong steady winds; but you need to either be really close to the water or really high up the mountains. Kalapana Seaview has ripping good wind and so does the saddle between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. I think it is like the growing regions here, lots of different micro climates and widely varied conditions within a few miles of each other. When we lived in Seaview a neighbor had 3 little wind turbines, usually at least 2 were spinning pretty fast. The winds came from the ocean during the day and down from the mountain at night, except when the trades totally stopped, then we only got night winds.
