you are right. actually, hopefully, this is not the end of the story. the police said something to think about. at first i thought it strange: their job is to catch the bad guys, not necessarily get our car back. upon reflection i agree. the bad guys probably do this over and over and over. the police would need endless resources if they always were trying to "right a wrong". but catch a bad guy and it stops the cycle. not that they didnt hope to get our truck back. but, if they went in got our truck and then it would get thrown out of court he is still loose. so we were in effect rather selfish, because our "goal" was to get our truck back. it is a frustrating thing, that our legal system has disolved into a game like this.. where murder isnt murder, theft isnt theft, etc. etc. i actually think the police have a thankless job.... but hopefully... it isnt the end of this...

You would be surprised but there are three that I know of here on the Kona side. A yellow one, a red one and a white one, I see them regularly. (They all are pretty beat up though.)

The police, in my opinion, know everything that goes on around the island. It's like the judge that I've been told that cooks at the cockfights. The biggest problem is that someone is a relative of at least someone in high places that takes care of things.

Seen those too John ,, The light beige one I see @ Costco all the time is in good shape.
Lquade, often that cheap paint can be literally 'wiped' right off without damaging substrate ... Also probably safe to ASSume these guys did ZERO prep work so this white is probably not really keyed in either ...

lquade,
I tried to send you a back channel e-mail, but it kicked back. I'm wondering your car thieves run in the same crew as the rippers I mentioned. The ones in the incedent I referred to are near Kurtistown, off Huina Rd. They have junkyards all over Puna.

Glad you got it back! I had friends that spotted two family cars at two different times, parked, that were stolen two different times. Police met me at the cars. One had my stuff gone, an extra battery & some jump-wire stuff. A third car that had been stolen had the car thieves inside trying to hot wire another car, and the police got them. (Two VWs & a TransAm). This was on the Mainland, but friends are priceless. Wish the police / law enforcers could / would do more. Congratulations, good thoughts, much aloha to you!

So I'm with Jerry on this, what were the consequences to this theft? Just all grins and smiles and that is it? Have the police said anything at all?
