I have some thoughts about the "Steam Vents" area. Isn't it right next door to where Emily's Legislative Assistants live, and owned by friends of theirs. Any conflicts?
I think Emily is a good person who desparately needs better advisors.
The 50 something acre parcel behind the Pahoa Pool that we already own is a much more viable development project.
Cultural Center; Ampitheater, Campgrounds for visitors? With walking access to Pahoatown, and shuttle service to other puna attractions.
Instead of paying an inflated price to questionable people for questionable land, lets do something that would have a more immediate and positive economic impact on lower Puna.

Please make sure your facts are correct before commenting. The answers, I beleive are no and no.
If you feel she needs good advisors, go in and advise her.
FYI, In my research of the vents purchase, a concern since I use them, it was a very fair price, purchased from a private party not of questionable status. The whole intent was to maintain the "Steam Vents" for public access and prevent its commercial development that was being considered.
It was/is a worthy venture for the good of the District, especially for those like me who use them. quote: Originally posted by Greg

Forgive me kjlpahoa but the Steam Vent purchase leaves me and others quite confused. The purchase of the property has been described as a way to preserve the site from development. At the same time Emily's staff, and Emily, have talked about developing the property as a wellness and cultural center. It has seemed to be a confused vision of talking about developing while talking about preserving. Which is it?
And to what extent are Emily's supporters at the Steam Vent Inn involved? There is a strong appearance of Emily's staff, who we understand to live at the Steam Vent Inn, using her (and county money) for their personal agenda.
I will still invite you to start a topic on Emily's achievements over the last three years.
Assume the best and ask questions.

OK, Here is my advice,
Emily, fire your staff, they are giving you bad information (protect us from manditory flu shots? no such thing) Please hire someone who is more "mainstream" and akamai in the interests of your diverse constituents.
Forget about Steamvents. It's overpriced, and it's location and geology will inhibit development. Can it handle much larger crowds than it gets now anyway?
Instead, spend less money to get more, by developing the land in Pahoa that we already have. This would have an immediate and lasting positive impact on the shops, restraunts, and other local businesses.
Be careful with your Pohoiki development plans; Our keiki need a safe place to swim, but the area targeted now is the home to a large group of endangered sea Turtles.
Mahalo for voting for no waste to energy plant, and for the plastic bag ban.

I would like to refer you to www.write-matters.com where Emily has posted some of her accomplishments and current projects. It is very informative. quote: Originally posted by Rob Tucker
Perhaps kjlpahoa would share with us a list of Councilwoman Naeole-Beason's proudest accomplishments?
Over the past three years I have asked Emily's staff to be put on a call list or email list for District 5 notices of meetings, news and events. All I have been told to date is that they do not do that.
It is hard to be well informed when the District 5 office makes little or no effort to keep people informed.

It is an interesting site. I was completely unaware of it. I can find nothing on the site which identifies the writer so by what method do you attribute the writing on this site to Emily Naeole-Beason? I get none of Emily's style from what is posted there.

That website sounded like a campaign organ when I read it. The "accomplishments" listed are either non-binding resolutions that would depend on another body to enact concrete measures or things done by diverting geothermal emergency funds from their intended purpose. I didn't see any significant legislation introduced and/or passed by the Councilwoman that would improve our lives here in Puna or redress past neglect by the County. Trying to get federal funding for park improvements and trying to get the state and feds to subsidize household photovoltaic systems are laudable, but they are not accomplishments until enacted, funded, and built. Sounds like pie in the sky and re-election posturing to me.

Humm, so if she is writing about her accomplishments and posting about here current projects as a Councilmember, wouldn't those writing now be considered Public Records under the law? I guess some concern and caring citizen of her district could request all her postings to that site. If she wrote it for public informational purposes, she would have to turn over all the post, but if it wasn't her writing it, she would simple respond that it wasn’t her who wrote the post. Easy enough to clear up, if someone wanted to find out the truth.

The blog and the person(s) posting in various Punaweb forums simply cannot be Emily herself. Spelling, punctuation and grammar are too good.
It looks like October 8th, 2009 was the first of the series of pro Emily blogs on write-matter.com. The manner in which the comments in that blog have been written certainly seem like a staffer is writing it.
write-matter.com was registered through godaddy.com and is registered as a private registration through domainsbyproxy. This means the owner of the site intended to remain anonymous.
Anyone can look this up.

Make a Public Records Request for the Councilmember’s postings on that website as official statements in her official capacity, or as official reports by her staff in their official capacity relating directly to the Councilmember’s official duties.
If it is her postings, it will have to be released to you.
If it is NOT her postings, the statement, "where Emily has posted some of her accomplishments and current projects" would be shown as false.
Either way, you get to the truth about if that is or isn't her 9or staff) doing the postings.
