Safeway Grand Opening
#41
I Like the new Safeway however they still are using there tricks. I used the coupons for the bagels and bread but they did not take off the coupons from the total. I went to the service desk and she gave me the money back $3.84. They do not change this in the computer so everyone must be getting ripped off. Just imagine how many people that don't check their receipts get charged for this.

Jade, I will check my receipt as I bought bagels there yesterday.

So went in finally, I call it "trader joe's lite". Same high prices without the panache.

Speaking of lite, the lighting in there is terrible, but I guess the Puna stoners will be happy it isnt so bright.

Safeway had Diet pepsi 3/$5 - cheaper at Keaau foodland - $1 a piece, and with the buy 4 get 1 free coupon, its even less.

I did buy NY strip's there for $4.49/lb, a one time special. It was only a dollar more than hamburger.

The whole experience in there - crowds, not being able to find stuff, the lighting - gave me a headache.

When we go to Safeway after the coupons are loaded in....They are the only items we buy. And we know ahead of time what it will cost including tax (give or take a dollar). If it's wrong...we ask to see the receipt and find the mistake. We have caught them occasionally with the sale price not entered into the system...

I was at Safeway on Sunday morning.... I cannot help but think, if this is going to be the normal parking lot fill, what will happen when Target opens?(The parking lot was full almost out to Makaala, and over to the Target entrance area.... on a Sunday morning...)
It was a bit brighter than the Kona store, but it felt much like it was from the same design center (I do like the fact that the Kona store has better tree shade in the parking lot)

I was disappointed about the parking. Silly me, I thought that once they stopped sharing with the mall and Longs that it would improve.

I do think it is the novelty in town at the moment. It will even out. It's lucky that Target didn't open at the same time. When Target opens, the grand opening will make it hard to grocery shop for a couple weeks, no doubt.

It's nice the new Safeway has customer restrooms. (Even though the old one let you into the back area.)

The deli and Starbucks needs some help. I thought I would nip in there yesterday and get quick sandwich and coffee before seeing "Paul" -- really fun movie btw, was surprised.

The Starbucks prep people took over five minutes to ring up one order. After I ordered I went and tried to pay for my sandwich, the registers were down or hung up. After a long wait, I returned wondering if someone would have taken my latte by now -- only to find it was not even made yet.

Then she made me the wrong drink. I caught it. Another wait.
This would never happen in the real Starbucks. They would go out of business if they were that slow.

The sandwich was awful. The avocado was bitter ... someone didn't taste it. Really bitter.
Not a good experience, too bad. Still happy to have a clean bright store with more options, but I can see that there will be bumps. I didn't realize before that Safeway was going to try to change its whole image. I thought they were just moving to a new location.
