If I go & get more cups, do you want these little guys??? There may be 50 or more (most times there are more than what I think there are...).

I won't be on the island till December. If you have any then I'd be MORE than happy to grab some.

I've only been the property for a short time. I sure hope so though, native plants and ferns are HIGH on my list. We want most of the property to be as "natural" as possible.

I can't wait for december to spend a week on the property working. We plan to visit every 6 months for the next four years and then move.

Thank you Carey. I'm hoping to have lots of palms, my parrots love the nuts sooooo very much!

I'm so happy to get this chance to chat with so many fantastic people that will someday be my new neighbors. Smile

Aloha and welcome, I hear your excitement, Alaska and Hawaii - the best of both worlds! We just got our final permits in January of this year, and will be snowbirding from Alaska for 6 months this winter. Everyone we met along the way was very gracious and friendly, you have chosen a special place that appeals to Alaskans, I'm a lifer in Palmer, Ak that finally got my 30 year dream come true......the best of both worlds. And the Puna Web is an awesome source of information for just about anything!

I can guarantee you will spend all your time focusing on the "next trip over" and the 999 things you want to do and see!!

Enjoy your new venture! Dorothy

Dorothy, thanks for the welcome. People always think Alaska and Hawaii are so different, but I find them to be so similar! It rains so much here in SE Alaska that the WARM rain in Puna is so lovely!

After living in Alaska most of my life the "change" to Hawaii seems easy. Smile

118 days till I'm back on the island!

Hi Dayna:

What sp[ecies of parrots are you planning to bring with you?

I worked for 21 years at the Smithsonian National Zoo and I also have a collection of pssitacines that I will be bringing to the Big Island.

I will assume that you have mostly macaws since their natural food source is palm nuts....right? If so what species of macaws do you have?

Be sure to microchip everything because the Ag dept. is pretty strict on importation.

My parrot has a legband but I don't think she has a microchip. Where would that be installed on a parrot? I have a female eclectus. Thank you for any assistance.

I have two macaws (a scarlet and a blue and gold), 3 amazons (a double yellow head, blue front and an orange wing) and a citron crested cockatoo. I also have a red rumped parakeet but depending on his age and health condition I'll decide if I bring him closer to the leaving date.

I will get all my birds microchipped.

Carmel123, birds are generally microchipped in the breast as that's the only location in most birds that have enough muscle tissue for easy implantation.
