Cost of a catchment tank cover
#11
Just a "thank you" to everyone who's answered - I expected to be paying out several hundred dollars at the minimum but you've all reassured me I can afford a new cover! So to say thank you, here are three shots of the Puna coastline this evening (about midway between Kalapana and Kapoho) - I haven't taken a photo for roughly four months so it felt a little weird getting the camera back out again and fortunately the lens wasn't too moldy!

Photo 1, Photo 2 and Photo 3.

Perfect timing Tom, thanks for the post, I just noticed yesterday our cover looks like it is starting to get a small tear in it. PunaWeb saves so much phone time, it has been invaluable to me over the years!

Enjoyed your pics too, beautiful!

I went with Waterworks in Hilo town. Cost about $250. That was a couple years ago.

So how long do covers last?

Loved the pics as well, Tom!

Tom, those photos are amazing....I vote that you are to take photos more often, in fact you should not be allowed out WITHOUT a camera!

All in favor???

My previous cover, with a new dome from Hawaii Catchment, back in 2007 lasted 4 yrs.

Again, thanks everyone. I've covered up the tear for now but will buy a new cover soon and will let everyone know the cost, but as I said earlier it sounds much less expensive than I feared!

Incidentally, I added a few more shots from the brief trip to Kapoho/Kalapana. Instead of giving the link to all of them I've a relatively short slideshow on flickr which includes the most recent ones at the end - http://www.flickr.com/photos/77754016@N0...2691/show/ - just in case anyone is interested.

Tom, when we purchased our tank cover six years ago we were told that you can spend less and get one that will last for at least a few years or spend more and get what is essentially the material used to cover trampolines which will last longer. We took the latter path and despite some lichen growth etc. at the edges the cover still looks sturdy.

A friend recently purchased one of the cheaper ones at the WaterWorks store across Kam Avenue from Ken's Pancake House (used to be a hardware store) and paid $135 for a cover for a 15-foot tank (actual measurement is 18 feet in diameter).
