I have Hawaiian Telcom DSL & love it. Fast & only $35 for WiFi + land line. Upper HPP

How did you accomplish that Dora? I have Hawaiian Telcom DSL and I'm charged $36.45 a month w/out land line. When I called them up after reading your post, the rep. said it would be $52.00 for both plus tax. When I told the rep. I'd seen it on this blog, she said, huh, I don't know, I'd have to have her phone number to check.

Mine is around $50 something + taxes something for both DSl/landline with unlimited LD in US.

We switched to Aloha Broadband a few months ago. They're making an effort to fill in the gaps where there's no DSL or cable. This is us at 3rd @ Maku'u on deadend side. The only other alternative was Verizon's cell-based technology. You can get their MiFi thingie --basically a cell phone w/o a phone) or use their other do-hickey-thigie. Both plug into your USB. We used MiFi for 2 years then dropped it bc there was lousy connection speed - couldn't stream even YouTube vids. LOVE Aloha - they're very nice guys, too. It uses microwave technology. There's a transmitter across the street from us & one on Beach. Download is 2-2.5. My neighbors have it, too, and stream movies from Netflix. It's $50/mo. You can get higher speeds for higher price - %69.95? Not sure.

I also have Aloha Broadband. Usually, the speed is similar to macuu222, i.e. about 1.5 down and 1.0 up. But right now, it's .93 down, .19 up. at Maku'u and 8th., HPP.[Sad][Sad]

My HI Telcom DSL is called "lite" (3 MB per second). With a simple land line (no long distance), it's $34.99 + $7.48 taxes, etc = $47.42. It's called the "myChoice" bundle. The DSL is plenty fast for me; watch TV & Youtube videos. When I had unlimited long distance + DSL, it was $63.77 total. Every dollar matters to me, that's money I can spend elsewhere & not give to utility conglomerates.

Update:

After seeing my post on this thread, Aloha Broadband came to fix the antenna yesterday and now my internet speed has increased, ranging from 2.41-1.31 for download, and 0.45-0.21 for upload.

Thank you, Aloha Broadband for great customer service.

I am in the middle of the park and recently having serious problems with my Hawaiiantel DSL. I have even lost connection several times today. Speeds today, download 0.74 Mbps upload 0.13 Mbps. I have a call in with Hawaiiantel to check it out, but I am curious if other are having issues at the moment. Thank you.
