Hey Royall,

We are across the puddle visiting UC Davis. Gonna get back ASAP. Missing the Tropical Breezes and trade showers?

Actually that's not true...

Some time ago, I think back in the 90's, Kauai took a direct hit from a hurricane ... The result? Land prices plummeted! You could have picked up some really nice pieces of land for incredible deals if one had money. It's really timing. Just like right now is a super time to buy on the Big Island when I sold my Fern Forest land for 65K dollars! Now it's worth a measly 11K if that.

Timing. It's really true in the real estate market --- good things come to those who wait. And real estate does cycle no matter how much your realtor lies.

opi,

i have no chip on my shoulder. most people who answered were very nice and gratious to give me their perspective. i do have a problem with assholes thinking they can get away with masoginsitic sh...t when talking to a woman, wether it is here on the forum or in real life, on this island or on the mainland, they will not get a pass from me. so yah dan, take out your little kidd gloves and may be put a pair of insulated underwear next time you decide to give me some "constructive" advice a-la-dan style. because i wont put up with your abuse or your sh...t.

and as for the idiots on here who think i am stirring the pot, i kindly invite you to re-read the posts and see who it is trully stirring the pot and who is a f...ng troll.

and most importantly its about time this site had a female moderator, there would some piece and harmony for a change.

lastly Opi, i lived on Kauai just as you have, so i am not talking out of my ass. i know how much it rains, so i guess it a matter of subjective perception i suppose. but hands down, most of kauai is way drier then the east of big.

aloha to you all and even to dan.

thinkin ya'll have island fever and are gettin a wee bit beatchy ;p come on over to the mainland awhile and see if your ready to fly home Wink

Kauai has at least 2 distinct climate regions. Kapaa to end of the road above Hanalei is rainy but not quite the bucket loads like Hamakua. Once past Lihue and through the eucalyptus tunnel towards Poipu it is sunny and dry and the landscape is more that of a desert.

Affordable land or housing is impossible!!! When I was there rent for a converted shipping container was $1000 a month! Native families had had to house together in tiny ramshackle abodes that could sleep 3 or 4 families but not "live". Living was done outdoors under tarps. The wages are poor so the indigenous families cannot afford to buy or barely rent for that matter which is why so many house together Sad Rich retiree's have driven the housing market prices through the roof! Pretty, pretty island but unless you are extremely wealthy I think living there would be very very rough.

This is exactly our solution for rock/rain fever.... we went to SO Cal last month (wedding, missing real Mexican food and family) and and were soooo happy to get back off the plane in Hilo. I could not live in that dry dry dry air anymore, could not live that close to my family... and can make Mex food at home! So we are good for a another year until the next June wedding in 2013.
