August 3rd, Friday.... baby #8 was born this morning! Another boy. That makes seven boys and one girl. Wooo hoo..next season will be a meat season! Still, these babies are adorable. Every one being cared for well by mom. No bottle babies. They ar all strong, adorable, active. Gotta love it.

Congrats to all the mamas. Healthy babies. I lived on a farm in Kau & we had about 20 St. Croix sheep. One prosperous Easter we had company & served them 4 lamb legs perfectly cooked. After a delicious dinner we were stuffed & took a walk in the pasture. Sure enough, there are 4 newborn lambs all from the same female. Our generosity was replaced 4 fold & immediately. We couldn't stop laughing, although they ARE cute & visualizing lamb dinners - well, um. Usually St. Croix only have 2 & 3 is rare, 4, practically unheard of.

Last night was lambing night.... six more babies hit the ground between last night and this morning. We have a total of 14, with 13 boys and one girl. Oh, my goodness! They are adorable and we will see lots of lamb chops and legs of lamb next year! Whoa!!!!

Feel free to be in touch and come see the babies. Wink

Looks like we will have some bottle babies after all. Michael just came in. One momma has developed mastitis. We have cleared her teats but I am sure it hurts and she won't nurse. ahhh, the joys of bottle babies.....

Today is the 11th and Pam hasn't posted any new birth announcements since the 4th. Hey Pam - how many ewes are still due, and has that one ewe recovered from the mastitis (ouch)? Seems like your new ram only throws males. You may need to hire someone else for the job next year.

Everyone is birthed! We got 14 babies total. Remember our herd was nearly wiped out last year by those dogs. The Mastitis momma is the one who had the two bottle babies we are feeding. We ost one of the 14 so hae 12 boys and one girl. Definitely differet ram for next year at least for some of our girls! The little ones we have now are happy acitive and fun. Just lovely!

Mastitis momma is not clearing up completely but we are doing our best. Watching her but figure we won't be breedingher again. She had this problem last year. We may sell her off as a lawnmower to someone who doesn't want to breed. Whatever is best for our sheep of course. Yes we raise lamb for meat, but while we have them we try to tale good care of them, make them as happy and healthy as pssible and there is NO reason to take a girl where she just can't go!
