The clearing between Shower Drive and the Humane Society on Hwy 130 is for widening of the highway. The poles are scheduled to be moved.
this will alow two full lanes going north as well as a shoulder.
Sadly, a "green" strip is not what the Hawaii Dept of Transportation is on about -- they like pavement and lots of it.
Of course, this is the state, not the county, since it is a state highway.
Eventually, the plan is to also clear on the mauka side. At first there will be a so-called commuter lane for morning -- of course, the lane like this now on the makai side is a crazy lane used whenver speeders want and used to pass on the right side -- both very hazardous things to do. After the "sorta-lane", the mauka side is to be expanded to two full lanes plus a shoulder.
