government beach road complaints dec 2013
#11
I find it amazing how many people tout this "come to the island and want to change it" spiel whenever they can possibly fit it in...relevant or not.

Newsflash, there were roads and paved roads on the island before this guy moved here? Whats the big deal about wanting the road to his house paved? They are paved everywhere for the same reasons they are paved in hawaii. Nothing new here move on!

As if on cue, here's D2K with his "property tax cheaters". Sorry, wrong argument.

The "roads in limbo" are completely different than the other legal fiction "privately owned public roads".

Government Beach Road is by definition a "public road" despite being denied the necessary first-class funding due to governmental infighting.

I agree with the whole "don't come here expecting to change it" posture ... to a point. This is not one of those points.

New account claiming that most people on waawaa want it paved. This goes along nicely with the internet petition run by someone looking to sell their property down there who no longer lives down there. The other vocal proponent on this forum being someone who built a large ocean side home in the area and rumor has it wants to sell out as well. How many people living down the waawaa actually have internet and would end up on these forums or signing online petitions? The people I know down there I have to walk or ride my bike to in order to communicate and they do not want it paved. I guess I wont be walking or riding my bike down there once it is paved as it will be full of tourists and others joy riding down it. That will throw a wrench in former said persons "beach walk" dream, of course the plan to make sure the traffic is diverted into the shores neighborhood has already been carried out, just like clearing the trees for the obligatory ocean view. Three story houses here we come!

Go back to California or Oahu.

Uh,It's a county highway !!!

It needs to be maintained !!!

I live in Kapoho .When we have high winds, we have to drive Government Beach Road because the albezias are crashing down on the Kapoho-Pahoa road.I guess when someone dies from a falling tree it will be a big deal !

Exactly,I can avoid that area when the road thru Waa Waa is in good enough shape.

I don't understand why I need to buy a lifted truck to drive down a County road that should be maintained !!

Seems like nobody understands the "Limbo" part of an officially-designated RIL. This is hardly surprising; there's nothing quite like it anywhere else in the US.

Government Beach Road does not belong to County, or State, or any individual.

In "theory" it's up to County to accept the grant of this road from State.

Until then, nobody is responsible for maintaining it.

Afwjam,
Rumors are seldom helpful and often hurtful. They do not make for good neighbors or the realization of dreams. If in your post you were referring to me and my large home,
your is in correct. I plan to live here until I die, off grid, on catchment.
The road issue is about safety, no trees will be cut down, or widening occur. We want the promise from the county to maintain a drivable surface, to be kept.
Try talking to me directly before you refer to me on a blog with rumors.

It will be necessary to secure such promise, as it does not currently exist.

If you drive through Lelani you can avoid those Albizia trees
One Thing I can always be sure of is that things will never go as expected.

The other reason I drive that road is Da Store has the only atm in the area that I can get cash from my debit card without paying a fee.
(Mainland Credit Union)
