tap water is discolored in Hilo
#11
One thing I have learned from all government agencies, Time Warner, Hawaiian Telcom, DirectTv, Dish Network, etc, etc, etc....
If some goes wrong it, and it requires any effort on the part of the provider beyond answering the phone, you will always first be told it is your water pipes, phone lines, cable lines...

With a service provider that type of passing the buck is frustrating, but with water it could be dangerous. How difficult is it to imagine that the now saturated ground gave way somewhere causing a county water pipe to sink, bend and crack, siphoning in the surrounding soil? It's underground so the county can't see it.

Of course it could be rust and sediment dislodged in your pipes as well, but you won't know for sure for a few days. Better safe than sorry. I would boil water meant for consumption, and run it through a Britta filter.

Yeah, I know. I was like, "I am not concerned about my own water supply, I am concerned about the Municipal Water Supply for the entire town!" Nope. No response. Either they monitor it very very well, or the response time might not be so fast in an actual emergency. I don't know enough about it. The water is pretty much clear now, and we live close to the road, so I'm thinking it was the county water that was the problem, but who really knows?? I guess I'll see if any of us get sick.

I would drink my own urine before drinking that stuff. They add lots of goodies to the water supply.

Sun, perhaps you could tell us precisely what goodies are put in the water. I am curious.
Assume the best and ask questions.

"...what goodies are put in the water. I am curious."
Rob!? You must already know, it's "needy need things" and they alone cloud the minds of poor souls like Sun who has the "needy need" electronic device which enables Suns wondrous dialogue throughout "Thneedville" (when not drinking his or her own urine that is). This is a whole new level of "piss and vinegar".

The only thing added is Chlorine to bring it up to around 6-9 parts per million to kill bacteria, as is required nation wide. If it tastes or smells too chlorinated, report it and get a filter. It its discolored, the water supply is required by law to come check at your tap if asked, which is why they asked you. More than likely its from runoff especially since its cleared up for you. Me, I prefer catchment, and anyone who does not chlorinate their catchment is just a fool.
