Hawaiian Acres Roads
#51
I hear you,Rob, about the Fuel Tax Revenue. Isn't that available only to subdivisions that have mandatory road fees?

if the 60 bucks a year were mandatory times the over 4K lots in hawaiian acres, then every year we would have a quarter million which would start on many repairs. if we brought road one up to county standards and gave it to the county, then we wouldnt have to do it again. then save up and start with a couple of cross roads. i think the county already wants Groad? is that the connector that will eventually be kaleponi blvd? (17th through eden roc).. no peter, you are correct, bake sales certainly wont do the trick but knowing the road committee is spending the money elsewhere, maybe you could tell us how much YOU would charge to patch the holes and maybe we could start a fund...i dont see how they could prevent us from fixing our own roads but mimosa said he got some legal hassles over doing just that...

Fuel Tax Revenue has nothing to do with subdivisions. It has to do with tax equity. It has to do with roads.... all roads. The individuals driving on 750 miles of privately owned/publicly accessed roads are paying fuel tax that does not go to maintain those same roads.

The whole situation is not legal and is based on the County of Hawaii violating it's own code when the subdivisions were formed in the 1950s. The status quo will remain the status quo as long as there is no legal challenge.

Puna subdivisions have to stop fighting amongst themselves and come together. The minute they even appear to do so the politicians will be crawling out of the woodwork trying to forestall any serious legal action... making all kinds of promises.

Assume the best and ask questions.

Excellent point Rob.
My generator gasoline has road taxes added to the cost, but my generator causes zero wear upon the roads. Why can't a portion of the fuel tax be applied to the maintenance of our police patrolled private roads?

The government seems to have no problem enforcing cannabis laws in our underserved neighborhoods, even to the point of expending a disproportionate amount of funding within these substandard neighborhoods in pursuit of the [sarcasm]insidiously dangerous and evil[/sarcasm] cannabis plant. Imagine if the money wasted on cannabis eradication had been used to improve infrastructure within these substandard developments... Or if the matching Federal counter cannabis funds had been diverted to our needy local schools?

Peter, in response to the last paragraph of your May 2 post :
I would like to suggest that rather than listen to your "trusted source".....ie: gossip, you at least make an attempt to find the truth of the matter.... rather than spewing utter nonsense to others. You have no idea what is going on other than a law suite.
Repeating what you have heard from some unknown source only makes you not only sound, but look like a fool.

Mimosa, the fuel for the vehicle covers the trip to the fuel depot. My generator fuel should not be taxed the same as fuel for vehicles.

Too bad they don' have tax exempt, dyed fuel like diesel. Ag or street, your choice at the jobbers depot.

There are forms that can be filled out for refund of Fuel Tax Revenue.

I always thought it would be real interesting if there was an organized protest where 20,000 people in Puna all filled out the form and submitted for a refund. Give them some paperwork to do.

Fuel tax revenue, mandatory road fees...I sometimes wonder who in HA would manage and administer those funds. The road committee has always been up against some determined sabatuers and some have even gotten elected to the board just to make sure nothing positive can happen. Probably a county takeover of the main roads would be best. We residents can then battle over maintenance of the gravel roads.
