Tiffany Edwards Hunt running for Council

Kathy, are you really criticizing Tiff's web comments and yet seeing Tim Law, with his non-existent web presence, as worthy of consideration? It's clear you oppose Tiffany - So don't vote for her, and get over it. Say something positive about someone if that's a possibility for you. If you can only support an elusive, ephemeral candidate who has said and done nothing, that scares me.

She honestly can't do anything but criticize.

It's in her blood. It's her only way of life.

Had a typical Tiffany Hunt moment though. She came up to me with a smile saying she didn't have any animosity toward me. After I didn't reciprocate in less than a minute she was threatening to sue me. What a gal.

Thank you, Rob for posting this.
It simply reaffirms that Tiffany is NOT ready for being on the council.

Tiffany seems to have a lot of supporters. I was at the forum last night also (saw you there Rob! Hi!) Rene throws a great party, doesn't she? Turnout was impressive, and the questions were what you'd expect: GMO, geothermal, green waste, invasives... Puna issues. But the candidates on the whole were very disappointing. The whole show left me with the feeling (again) that I wish Rene herself was running. Can we draft her? I asked her once back in January, but she declined.

Tiffany is a sharp kid, and her heart seems to be in the right place, but her positions aren't. She's ready to talk about trash whenever you like, and her enthusiasm seems boundless, but she talks about trash the way Daniel Cunningham talks about hemp, as if it could solve every problem in Puna and it just can't. That's not really fair, because Daniel did spin off into creating a biodome in the ocean where we all could go live without government... Tiffany stayed a little closer to Earth, but we don't need bits of glass and rubber to build roads, we need asphalt. And money. And she (Tiffany) seemed resigned to geothermal development... "It's here, what ya gonna do about it?" And practically uninterested in GMO. I'd like to hear her speak passionately about something else besides transfer stations and green waste.

I was more impressed by Frances Pueo. Her actual positions were clearly progressive, and her grasp of the issues facing Puna was substantial. She seems well informed and thoughtful. No brochures though, and no visible campaign to speak of, so I don't see how she can possibly compete with Tiffany.

I went to the debate as a Tiffany supporter. I left the debate having lost all respect for her. Her answers on GMO and geothermal were pathetic, both rhetorically and politicaly. Frances Pueo & Cherish Almeida were head and shoulders above all the others.

I knew in advance Tiff is a geothermal supporter, so I was not surprised by that. Perhaps it's advertiser influence, or maybe she doesn't live near enough to care about the impacted neighbors, or maybe she's a true believer. The shocker is she seemed surprised by the question! On GMOs I really thought she was somewhat enlightened. She not only didn't display such, but again she seemed surprised to be asked! How can one be unprepared for such questions?

In thinking this race was Tiff vs. certain nutcases, I thought Tiff to be the better choice. In her answers she barely distinguished herself from those. Now I'll support the two clear-spoken women with good politics mentioned above, Frannie Pueo & Cherish Almeida, neither of whom did I know in the least before the debate. I hope others will, also.

Stop thinking government is about "solving problems" or "representing the people".

It's all much easier to swallow when you realize it's just "entertainment".

Example: Hunt vs Naole. No matter who wins, we lose.

I too was very impressed with Frances Pueo! Thoughtful, articulate, communicative progressive who I'd never heard before.

I do hope Fran Pueo wins. Having started out as a Tiffany fan years ago, I've been cured of that through her various tirades, some directed at myself but more troublesome, directed at others who, if she is elected, would need to be half of Puna's County Council "team." I have been in meetings where Tiffany has taken it upon herself to vilify and berate Councilman Ilagan, even with him present, other times on her blog.

I pray that whoever is elected in Council Dist. 5 can work w/the representative of Council Dist. 4, for the betterment of the whole Puna district. (I do realize there will be instances that the 2 Puna council reps may need to disagree or pursue goals for their particular district but as a whole, I think we'd agree that Puna hopes our 2 reps can work well together for the betterment of our community.

Ilagan is currently the incumbent and I have been impressed w/his responsiveness and respect for his constituents' views and concerns and the way he treats everyone. Therefore, I and most of my friends intend to vote for Greggor Ilagan. How does Tiffany think she can effectively accomplish goals and work with council members she has publicly dissed?

BTW, I don't understand kalakoa's reference to Hunt vs. Naeole as they are in 2 different council races.

Even better: they both win, we lose twice as hard. The system works!

Ms. Pueo does seem like a wonderful person: a well-spring of sincerity and compassion. She strikes me as the epitome of decency and lucidity. What I didn't hear -- and I didn't hear it from any of them by the way -- were concrete solutions. Her comments on carcinogens and GMO's, for example, were moving and well-taken, but failed to take into account myriad counter-arguments. What are the viable alternatives? Same with geothermal. I really want to hear someone come out and tell me one concrete thing that they can and will do to improve our lot! I don't have to be charmed, I have to be convinced. There must be one thing we could all agree on; something that would sell itself. All rhetoric and charisma aside, I'll vote for someone who can deliver.

Very well stated.

As so many have mentioned, Tiffany's affinity for publicly dissing others and holding a grudge are the the biggest reasons why she will not be effective if elected. What other councilor would want to try to form an alliance with her, knowing about her typical behavior?

Just to clear up a few things, especially for those who were unable to attend the forums:

1. Every single candidate was informed ahead of time that Malama O Puna's questions would be on the topics of GMOs, Geothermal, Solid Waste and Invasive Species. So even though they didn't know what the exact questions would be, they had ample opportunity to do their homework on those topics. If they didn't, well, that tells the public something too.

2. Every one of Malama O Puna's questions asked the candidates for solutions - what would you support? what legislation would you draft? how would you address this problem? I was disappointed to see that although most of the candidates discussed the issue itself to greater or lesser degree, VERY FEW OF THEM ACTUALLY TOLD US WHAT, SPECIFICALLY, THEY WOULD DO IF ELECTED. My thoughts are: if you have no solutions, why are you running? These are not new issues, after all - they have been with us for a long time, and we have all had plenty of time to educate ourselves and think of some viable responses.
