K, it may be past time to start planning, as the Na`alehu Independence Parade was today... but here are some things, add more if you want:

Volcano 4th of July Celebration & Parade:
9am Parade route - down Old Volcano from the Post Office to Wright, then to Cooper Center
8am-1pm Entertainment, activities, performers & booths along with the Friends of Hi Volcano NP silent auction:

Hilo fireworks will be on a barge in the bay, allowing viewing from Coconut Island, there will be senior shuttles for those 55+ to the island

Can you buy fireworks (safe and sane or any other type) in Hawaii? Here in California it varies from city to city...

Oh, yeah, pretty much anyplace. AND fireworks are available at new year's, too!

You can buy, but most stuff you buy needs a permit, and the sales are for limited days (the fireworks permit money goes to partially pay for the 4th fireworks

I've never purchased the type that require a permit but as I understand it the permits are $25 and available from the vendors that sell the fireworks that require the permit.

Costco sells big fireworks bundles, but I don't know if there is anything "good" in them.

I haven't bought fireworks in a long time, but from my understanding, anything like rockets or goes up in the air is illegal... The permit is basically if you want to make noise for fire crackers and you can only buy so many.

So there is not much "good" in any package unless you think showers and sparklers are good.

You cant buy any aerial fireworks you can fountains,sparklers,and something that pop without fireworks permit.If you want real firecrackers you have to have a permit.Carey are you sure fireworks are on the barage this year in Hilo I thought I read that it was back to Coconut Island because road work on bayfront?

Going to community center Hawaiian acres they having potluck,music and fireworks 5pm to 10 pm.Everyone is invited even if you don't live in acres. Will be a good time.
