Many things that were issues will become non-issues if south Puna gets cut off.
Many issues should have been settled long before lava forced the issue...
Whatever happens at this point should be "very interesting" indeed.

Yes, the Moderator's tolerance of RJ/Sativa and other similarly vicious posters is possibly saintly. But it is also the reason not a single elected official or even a legitimate candidate posts here any more - and I wish they would. Freedom of speech...Or tacit exclusion of some of the most relevant voices in favor of the craziest?

If elected officials are worth their salt, as it were, none of us should, or could, sway them from communication with their constituents.
With all due respect to those elected, they have been less than candid, especially in this particular issue.

Actually, other than the County officials, they were candid from the outset. Those that want to believe otherwise will do so regardless, and aren't worth worrying about or responding to in such a forum as this. I find it rather amusing though that those who dislike SPACE/VGS/HVC the most, are the same ones that put so much stock in their self-claimed influence.
I predict that if any fine is actually paid, it will be a miniscule, meaningless amount. The County has made too many mistakes and will be drawn into the fracas (which it should), as well as the State and the both of them will left holding the bag of ultimate responsibility.
Any decently priced lawyer will easily show how both government entities screwed up the whole permitting, inspection process, combined with the lack of enforcement and how the long term and well established patterns of behavior by them have caused and allowed this kind of situation from the get go. The County is going to come out this with some serious butthurt.
Be careful what you want out of this matter.
