Over 100,000 die from measles each year Kathy.
Ebola, 5000+ so far.

It's not and shouldn't be an Either Or proposition.
Plus the CDC and the President and health care nationwide have already decided that it is crucial to deal with Ebola, so the question of whether to give it attention is a moot debate and a deflection from the topic.
I don't downplay that measles is serious, but children die of the common cold too. Children and infants can be very fragile. Most children wait out the measles at home, and don't go to the hospital. All Ebola patients who can go to the hospital and put an immense burden on the system in terms of care and medical waste disposal. Each Ebola patient has a critical ordeal, even if surviving. The fewer the better!
If you guys want to quote statistics, fine that it works for you. I find the statistical comparison approach to be unpersuasive. Anyone can pull out stats for worse things than most risks, but that doesn't mean we should not do what we can to drive the disease back into dormancy, both here and in Africa.

The big statistical difference is in the fatality rates for people who get measles or ebola.

They certainly aren't up to date at Ebola.com, it would appear to be better to visit
http://www.drudgereport.com/ for the latest news on the topic.

People have a very difficult time determining risk.
They will engage in all types of activities far more dangerous than the appear.
They will irrationally fear other events with almost no possibility they will be affected.
What do you think is more likely, getting in a car accident on Highway 130, with five of the top ten dangerous intersections in the state? Or contracting Ebola in Hawaii? Do you cringe with fear every time you get in your car?

I would not assume people here in Hawaii are in fear of contracting Ebola at this time. They are concerned with Ebola getting out of control. It would appear that the two differing constructs are difficult for some to grasp. Portraying others to have such extreme fears is an exaggeration.

If the comments in this thread are merely the concern about Ebola getting out of control in places with the infection, then it really has no bearing on Puna or Hawaii, does it?
