The issue isn't registration. The issue is if there was intentional fraud. The problem is there is a conflict for which primary residence was being claimed for election purposes and another house being claimed for tax exemption purposes, at the same time. With that, there are other irregularities with another residence. TEH has a big problem with the "ignorance of the law" defense when she went into a tirade several years ago on her blog about the same issue, primary residence fraud.

primary residence fraud
Ag "exemption" fraud is probably more $$$$ if County bothered to investigate.

What I don't get is why the Tiffany lovers didn't thoroughly vet their candidate? Was it subconscious sabotage to leave her exposed like this or what? I mean, this is hardball politics isn't it, where ya give as good as ya get? Looks to me like ya'll drove away the very ones who could have helped her, and left her leading a snarling pack of defensive sycophants. Lessons learned? Did you achieve your objective? I wonder.

Just because everybody is doing primary residence fraud and illegal unpermitted rentals with no payment of income tax still means harm caused to the community when it is exposed. Like all the Punatics say, it isn't illegal unless you're caught. All that was done is show a collection of public records. Any emo-projection on that would be the readers biased opinion.

"Capt. Robert Wagner was quoted by at least 2 people (and NOT the ones you're thinking about now...) who told me Wagner was discouraging comments from citizens who initially made the complaints, saying that there didn't really seem to be a case against the Hunts" - Stapleton
Yeah that makes a lot sense, let's blame the police for something, whenever we don't agree with a decision, it's gonna be someone's fault, and so easy to blame our public servants! Is Capt. Wagner on trial now, oh forgot no ones been charged yet! Quit whinning! Its not the police who decide if probable cause exists, ultimately the Judge! Jeesh, give the cops a break already!

Thank you, Frankie, for the clarification and the understanding of where my question was coming from. Much appreciated.

Some seem to think that Tiffany's suspected fraud is minor.. not worth the time it takes to investigate etc., and surely against violent crime and the likes its nothing to get all upset about. But, I would suggest that it is a bigger deal than nothing, in that it (if true) undermines our society in such a way that if left unattended to would have the power to weaken the electoral process, and intimately our society, in much larger ways than one persons transgressions would otherwise be expect to. I am grateful for those that take our democratic process seriously enough to be the watch persons to these types of activities.

I consider this borderline tolerable IF the money "saved" is otherwise being spent in the local economy.
An off-island owner of a vacant lot which is undertaxed due to an "ag exemption" is outright stealing.

While a kamaaina company with 16,000 acres gets a free pass 'cause they're "local"?

Perception is that they contribute far more to the economy than the cost of their property tax breaks. With enough data and some hefty compute power, this theory (and others) could be proven or not.
As an alternate example: back-of-the-napkin suggests that my property tax doesn't even cover my per-capita portion of the debt service on the last three "constructon bonds" taken out by the current County administration. On the other hand, because I actually live here, I'm spending all my money locally anyway, so it's all supporting the economy "somehow".
To be perfectly "fair", I would have to pay lots more property taxes, which money would then disappear into the County administration rather then finding its way into the pockets of hardworking local people. Of course, in this scenario, I would also "expect" more services from County...
