Reasonable expectation to privacy.

paranoid that we are staring at his house and that we are attempting to eavesdrop

Run with this. Get a bunch of old satellite dishes and point them all at his house. With any luck, he blows his stack with enough flame-out that the police get involved...

I'll stick with the impenetrable bamboo barrier. In the meanwhile, we'll just have to cope with the harassment. The current measure is to simply not say anything and let him mutter on to himself. Da old silent treatment. I don't see any reason to escalate the situation but I also see no need to conform to his wishes either. It's like dealing with an irrational child throwing a tantrum. Most of us here should recall dealing with that nonsense from our kids and grandkids for some of us.

As an outsider I ask,,,,,, of what concern is having a permit of anyone else? Simple question, should be simple answer.

I follow a number of Real estate listings and get a number of for sale homes that are non-permitted. Doesn't seem to bother the Realtor.

Get a pair of binoculars and attach a small laser pointer, when you look so does the beam........

Don't be an sesquipedalian, Eschew Obfuscation.....

Sometimes, when I see the neighborhood children make small discoveries of their own, I wish I were a child.
With apologies to Dr. Seuss

Does this mean no party? Promise to leave our 3 kids in diapers home. Lol. Hope things improve for you, your area of paradise is one of my favorites on the entire island. When I was a boy we use to go bottle collecting, fruit picking, and do plenty of fishing down there. Now one of the few places with awesome mango groves, unspoiled soil, unpaved roads, with plenty of that old Puna coast vibe.

Gypsy69,
We've been discussing a Punaweb lawn potluck with Bocce Ball, BBQ etc. Maybe next month. We can place a "Please, don't feed the trolls" sign along our property boundary line. Smile

I can see where this would be very tempting.....but Kane is right about his silent treatment approach. What comes to mind is the YouTube clip titled:
Assault at our fence thursday 4-9-09 Pahoa, Hawaii

When I hear of stories like this, it makes me nervous knowing situations like this exist.

Kane, wishing you well and hope this situation resolves amicably.

Best wishes
