EVERY issue goes on the ballot... but we need an organization that is addressing the issue that we can support. Rainbow is definitely a consideration. Who/what is fealing with teen pregnancy? Let's find out... that's YOUR job! Gotta love all these ideas! Keep them coming!!!!!

Kids, animals, teen pregnancy - such great topics that whole support industries revolve around them - or at least the money/publicity they generate

When it comes time to vote, I'm looking to support something local, a definite BI need, something not already an industry unto itself, something really appreciative of our support, but not another "me too". I can do a "me too" by writing a check.

Hope this didn't come across as too negative, as it was meant to be taken in a positive manner.

BTW, not only can a poster edit their own posting, but by hitting the right most button, delete it also - handy for those duplicate gremblins.

David,
I too think this benefit should not be the me too type. It should be something that makes a difference as a stand alone benefit to the BI and not part of the social bureaucracy already in place, in my opinion also. Of course I can be persuaded by a good argument for sake of a better word!

Thanks for the addition to my repertoire, the delete function is alive and functioning.

David and Mella... you guys are RIGHT on track with my thinking r/t the right charity issue. Anyone can write a check to the March of Dimes. No slight to that organization; just an example of what I am NOT interested in working to support. I think from the beginning we have all talked about something small and local and something our efforts can make a significant difference toward. YAY... Smile

that sounds good to me,local and simple!keeping it real to puna's needs, local music and flavor.may be setting up info booths to cover all the needs so its not just one type of crowd.all who come can find something that can help in their life or just enjoy good food & music to help raise money for local needs

Oh, IKA, I like your idea of information booths. Although the performance can support a specific charity or two, we could have booths set up alongwith vendor type booths for food and also for selling performer's CD's... yeah!

Thank you for considering helping the animals via Rainbow in Kurtistown or possibly
advocats, Inc that promote 100% spay & neuter. Also, ARCH or Animal Rescue Coalition of Hawaii. They have fund raisers, etc., and all monies are used for spay & neuter. The number one solution to prevent unwanted births of cats & dogs.
I once read, If you want to find out how the children are treated in a community, then, just look at how they treat their animals. So you see, if we help the animals, we also help the children.
So far in less than a month of starting the petition for affordable spay & neuter we have over 1600 signatures. Almost everyone is saying this is a number one problem effecting their (homes) neighborhood of unwanted animals being dumped there. It is so sad, such a tragedy.
And yes, people are thanking us for doing the petition for affordable spay & neuter.

Pam in response to your post Posted - 07/18/2005 : 02:13:41 reasoning for making it a specific benefit for something meaningful and also including local info booths for established charities we all believe in and support individually. If it is our own specific event, if it is even mildly successfull, we can use it's name (whatever we decide, to name it, and whatever we decide to benefit) to promote a Bi-Annual event. Well we are not looking for another job here just looking to make our difference and I truly think it should be unique like you and David, and I hope it's success can be carried forward every other year to another celebration and fundraiser. Why do the same work foot work over and over again. Just ideas. Aloha Mella L
