What's eating my bamboo?
#1
isuspect rats, but why? Chewed halfway through above and below internodes at varying heights on different culms. I have photo, but don't see a way to attach it...

Bamboo...you can only link a photo from a photoshare (like dropbox, flicker, bling...

Without a photo guesses could range from rats, to pandas, to pigs,

but rats usually have that double front tooth gnaw pattern, and often in a circle... not sure about pandas, but you probably would notice them in your yard (the panda part is a joke) and pigs may not be as interested in bamboo (depends on the yummy factor of the `boo & how hungry they are), usually they leave a noticeable hoof trail in the wet soil..

but could also be an insect...if the nibble are small

maybe your neighbor is fixing stir fry and needed bamboo shoots?

I have heard that Ag inspection is now checking more carefully for pandas in shipments leaving the Big Island, so the infestation doesn't spread to the other islands.
