there are some with mental health issues , but i repeat myself the majority on the street have impaired thinking due to drug use , present and past . there behavior is altered by what they have ingested in the past and continue to use. i see it every day . yesterday we had to call the police for assistance to have one escorted from the business property when they became belligerent. this is a reoccurring continuing growing problem in hilo . that poor woman that was murdered was a victim of the problem . police are called way to often to the park for violent issues with the people that hang out there. kids can not even go to the park its not safe.

It was tourist killing tourist. This is going to be the consequence side of tourism as the violence on the mainland starts being carried over, thanks to Republicans wanting gun battles across America. The cost of jet fuel is going to go way down, and air fares are going to become a lot more affordable. That will be, things are crap here, I have a few hundred bucks, where can I get away from it all? The woman wasn't homeless, she lived in Pahoa before her boyfriend with the house had to go back to Florida. The daughter is living in California and was coming back for the trial. He has asked for mental evaluation. This is one tourist that is going to cost the island hundreds of thousands of dollars. As sad as this is, it is J.A.T. (just another tourist).

Maybe you can explain the very high murder rates in Chicago and Washington DC? Both run by very long time Democrat governments and gun laws are even stricter than Hawaii....

Just because someone once had a home with a boyfriend does not mean they aren't homeless in the present. And someone who has lived here for will over a year is NOT a tourist.

This was not a tourist killing tourist deal. This was a "tourist" killing a Hawaii county resident who was sleeping in a doorway because they had no where else to sleep, like all the other people who sleep in downtown doorways. I go into work as early a 5 AM on the bay front and virtually every doorway has someone sleeping in it, sometimes whole families. The only exceptions are the doorways that are gated or wet, those aren't tourists sleeping in the doorways, those are Hawaii county residents.
